Bashundhara City, located on Panthapath in the capital Dhaka, is the 2nd largest shopping mall in Bangladesh and one of the tops in South Asia. The Bashundhara Group started the construction of the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in 1998 and the mall was opened to the public in 2004. Mustafa Khalid Palash and Mohammad Fayez Ullah were the chief architects of the complex built in the style of modern western architecture. The complex was built at a cost of more than 100 million dollars.
Bashundhara City is a 21-story building. It covers a total of 17,763 m2 Gross Leasable Area (GLA). The lower 8 floors are used for marketing and the remaining floors are used as Bashundhara Group offices. The marketing parts of the building have 2,325 shops including 100 food courts. It has a dedicated floor for food shops, a large gym underground, a multiplex cinema hall, and a food restaurant with a children’s entertainment center on the top floor.
There is a huge garden on the roof of Bashundhara City. 1200 cars can be parked here together. Completely air-conditioned, the shopping complex is considered one of the symbols of modern Dhaka city. Every day thousands of people visit Bashundhara City.
