Bashundhara City, located at Panthapath in the capital Dhaka, is the largest shopping mall in South Asia. Bashundhara Group started construction of Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in 1998 and the mall was opened to the public in 2004. Mustafa Khalid Palash and Mohammad Fayez Ullah were the chief architects of this modern shopping complex built in modern western architectural style. The complex was built at a cost of more than 100 million dollars.
Bashundhara City is a 21-storey building. The lower 8 floors are used for marketing and the remaining floors are used as Bashundhara Group offices. The marketing parts of the building have 2,325 shops including 100 food courts. It has a dedicated floor for food shops, a large gym underground, a multiplex cinema hall and a food restaurant with a children’s entertainment center on the top floor.
There is a huge garden on the roof of Bashundhara City. 1200 cars can be parked here together. Completely air-conditioned, the shopping complex is considered as one of the symbols of modern Dhaka city. Every day thousands of people visit Bashundhara City.
Bashundhara City Opening Schedule
- Normally the shopping mall is open from 9 am to 9 pm.
- Fast food shops are open till 10 pm.
- Its weekly closing day is Tuesday, and is open half-day on Wednesday.
- Star Cineplex, located on the 7th floor of Bashundhara City, is open seven days a week.
How to go to Bashundhara City
From any part of Bangladesh, you have to go to Dhaka to travel to Bashundhara City. When you reach Dhaka, you will see this huge building at the corner of Kawran Bazar. Continue along the road on the west side of SAARC Fountain near Sonar Gaon Hotel, after 50 yards you will reach Bashundhara City Shopping Mall.
